Welcome to

Suffolk Young People's Health Project (4YP)

Suffolk Young People's Health Project (also known as 4YP) is a local charity, which provides and coordinates services that improve the social, emotional, and physical health and wellbeing of young people in Suffolk, aged 12-25.

Through advice, guidance and practical support we help young people develop the skills and knowledge to lead healthier, happier, safer and more resilient lifestyles. We give young people the confidence to make better informed choices and enable them to reach their full potential.

We work from our drop-in centre in Lower Brook Street, Ipswich and throughout the county, including in many schools. Our services aim to cater for those that struggle to get the support they need elsewhere.

Look through our Services below and separate Groups & Activities pages for details of the many ways you can get support from or involved with 4YP.

If you'd like more information, there are many ways you can Contact Us.

If you need us in these uncertain circumstances please see below...

What Does 4YP Offer?

Our services are confidential, so whatever you need to talk to us about you can be sure it is handled with respect and trust, and without judgement. Follow the links for An Introduction to the 4YP Counselling Service or to find out what A Typical Week at 4YP looks like.

Drop-in

4YP is an open-access centre. This means you can literally open the door and walk in any time between 10am-5pm each weekday.

Our Young People's Workers and volunteers are at hand with advice, guidance and support when you need it. You will be given a friendly welcome and the chance to talk through whatever's on your mind, ask questions about health and wellbeing and get involved in the activities on offer.

They can provide guidance with issues such as emotional wellbeing, housing and benefits, life skills, budgeting and signposting to other services such as legal advice, healthy living, and volunteering.

Groups & Activities

4YP runs various day and evening group sessions that provide opportunities to chill out, have fun, make friends, let off steam, chat and ask questions or even join us as a volunteer. There's always plenty to do and no two weeks are the same. What's on?

Counselling

Access to short-term counselling (6-8 weeks) to provide emotional support is available via the counselling service at 4YP. Please visit our Counselling page for more details.

Facilities

Our facilities for use by young people include a shower, laundry and kitchen. The cooking facilities are used to provide advice on healthy lifestyles and how to eat well on a budget. You can also pop in to use our computers and access the internet.

Partner Organisations

We work with a number of other organisations to ensure young people in Suffolk have access to the best quality support possible.

A Message from Suffolk Young People’s Health Project

Taking into consideration last evenings Government guidance regarding the outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Suffolk Young People’s Health Project has decided to provide online services only, meaning access to the 4YP building in Lower Brook Street is inaccessible until further notice. This has been a hard decision to make however we would like to keep all staff, young people and the community safe and at home as much as possible. Nevertheless don’t threat we are still here!

Therefore, until further notice, all counselling will be provided by Skype, Zoom, or telephone. You will be contacted in due course.

We will still be providing a ‘drop-in’ service however this will also be carried out online through Google Hangouts. To access this please use the google hangouts app or log on via google online and contact us through suffolk4yp@gmail.com. This is free to access for young people between 10am and 5pm.

If you need emergency support/advice we have a mobile set up for you to call to gain guidance from an experienced youth worker. This number is 07506861487. Please only call this in emergencies.

The team are working hard to provide as many services to young people across Suffolk. If you have any urgent queries you can still call 01473 252607 however if possible please email us on enquiries@syphp.org.uk

We hope you are all keeping safe in this time of difficulty and we look forward to providing all services including our evening groups and youth clubs soon.
